On the 2nd October,2008 approximately 4..pm in the afternoon 9Z4JE John called into TTARL {9Y4TTL} EOC ,of an accident in Matura on the east coast of the island ,a lorry truck carrying lumber went down on the bridge in Matura village causing inconvenience to the public especially to school children going home on the PTSC bus service.
ODPM was informed of the situation in which they contacted the Police , Army Cumuto Barracks and Sangre Grande Regional Cooperation,TTARL was the first responder on the scene and coordinated efforts with all state agencies involved.
LT.Hills of Cumuto Army Barracks coordinated activities with TTARL Chairman 9Z4FZ Julien to render assistance as the request came in from 9Z4JE John ,that base on the weight of the lorry that went down on the bridge an excavator was needed to put it back on the road.
9Z4JE John and members of the community was able to sought the assistance of EZCOM Readymix employee who had an over-loader at hand the driver Keith Bobb,After several attempts to remove the lorry truck with the 966 loader ,a call came in from 9Z4JE John ,noting doing the over-loader cannot move the lorry truck.
9Z4FZ Julien in communication with with LT Hills Cumuto Army Barracks Julien inform LT Hills that the excavator will be needed to go to Matura to assist ,9Z4FZ Julien requested if the Army can provide a trailer to transport the excavator as the excavator was in Sangre Grande the closest one to Matura.
The Sangre Grande Regional Cooperation contacted TTARL chairman 9Z4FZ Julien informing him that the Cooperation do not have any Equipment to assist in moving the lorry truck of the bridge and TTARL assistance will be highly appreciated ,Julien inform the Cooperation that he have equipment on the ground in Sangre Grande and will assist.
While the Army on it way to Sangre Grande to pick up the excavator word coming in from 9Z4JE John they have gotten through eventually the loader made a second attempt and was successfully in moving the lorry truck off the Matura bridge.
